After the original Book Lady decided to turn the page on her beloved book business in 2018, TheBookLady.ca moved from Pickering to The Book Lady 2.0 in Whitby, and eventually found its current home with Shannon in Whitby Shores in January 2020.

A school crossing guard and busy mom of three, Shannon was drawn to the business for its flexibility, the chance to meet new people, and the opportunity to provide a service that she felt so many people could use and enjoy.

Shannon’s transition to The Book Lady was a natural fit, as her love for books runs deep. As a child, she loved the Sweet Valley High book series and would pore over the pages from start to finish. She enjoys the way that a perfect book can offer an escape from the rules and responsibilities of everyday life.

“There's so much knowledge in books, I enjoy finding out new things,” she says. “But most of all, I love that a book is an item that can be shared over and over again.”

Sharing books with her three children has been one of Shannon’s great pleasures as a parent, from reading Little People books with her eldest daughter when she was younger, to helping her two reluctant readers connect with titles and subjects they love while reading together as a family.

Superhero books and The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series are favourites at her house. As The Book Lady, Shannon can help you find a great book for your little one—or yourself!
